A baby name consultant is a professional who specializes in helping parents choose the perfect name for their little one. They’re well-versed in trends, cultural influences, and linguistic nuances, providing honest feedback on name contenders and refining choices.
Why do I need a baby name consultant?
Because a name is the first big gift you’ll give to your child. There are so many options, and you might be feeling overwhelmed. Maybe you’ve narrowed it down to a few names but none of them feels just right. A person’s name can be linked to their self-identity and their fate in life in all sorts of ways. With that in mind, we’ll work closely with you to find the perfect fit for your family.
Who is We Love That Name?
We Love That Name was created to help expectant parents navigate the process of naming their baby. A strong consideration in everything we do is how a name will “wear” on a child as they grow up and take them into adulthood.
What exactly is the process?
Great question. It’s actually pretty painless:
- You get in touch with us by email or online form.
- We send you a link to a profile form to complete.
- We’ll schedule a call to get to know you.
- You pick a plan and pay the fee.
- We get to work and create your baby name report.
- We’ll have a final call to discuss our suggestions and answer any questions.
Who are Dori and Kristen?
We met years ago when we both worked at the same radio station. We’ve been helping to name babies and studying names in popular culture and history for 30 years as a hobby and — honestly — if we had ever heard of a baby name consultant back then, we would have probably had different careers!
What makes you qualified to give baby name advice?
As you can imagine, no qualifications are necessary to give advice about baby names! Dori and Kristen both hold memberships in the American Name Society, which promotes the study of onomastics (the study of proper names). That alone may make us more qualified than your mother-in-law!
How much does it cost?
Our consultations range from $50–$125 depending on the plan you’re interested in.
What kind of payments do you accept?
We accept credit cards and debit cards with the Visa or Mastercard symbol.
Do you accept international payments?
Sorry, we don’t accept International payments.
Do you work with parents outside of the United States?
Unfortunately not at this time.
How long does the baby naming process take?
The timeline is dependent on how quickly we receive your profile and can schedule your consultation. Once these two things are done, you should receive our report within 21 days or sooner.

Why should I trust you with my baby’s name?
Ultimately, parents should trust themselves with their baby’s name, but many expectant parents feel overwhelmed by the process of picking out a name. There are many opinions and sometimes family expectations and pressures. A baby name consultant will provide a neutral, “baggage-free” evaluation of names you’re considering and quite possibly names you had not considered.
What if I’m not happy with the name you pick?
Every client receives at least 5–10 well-researched name options, depending on the consultation plan chosen. There are bound to be names you like better than others. It’s always our hope that a client loves all the names we’ve carefully chosen, but they should be considered a starting point and sometimes can steer a client in a direction that is successful — even when the suggestions we provide are not chosen. All feedback is welcome after you receive your consultation report and is always helpful.
